New Reality Show for Style Photography

LONDON, United Kingdom, September 25 — A new reality show for style photography is announced today by Back to Front TV – a creative first for Britain the global capital of fashion, and therefore, of fashion photography.

The 9-episode series developed by Back to Front TV will take the form of a progressive elimination show that will celebrate the essential relationship between style and photography. Casting for the series will be conducted through a call for contestants, inviting anyone with a keen interest in photography to submit their best image and describe their motivation for participating in this exclusive first series.

The idea for the series came from a meeting with a legendary photographer, whose work has a special creative meaning in the world of fashion.

“The entertainment platform is already established – at the intersect between still and moving images” explained Haider Mannan, creator of the concept and principal of Back to Front TV.  ”We would like to create something special and there is unprecedented demand for original unscripted TV content. The audience is the photographer inside all of us and this will enable the world to watch as our real-life photographers reveal if ‘great photographers are born, or made’.”

The show will break down the process with a mentor briefing and tasks being set for the contestants – managing their own shoot against a deadline – the contestants will entertain from behind the camera on real-life photo shoots. Each shoot will be a thrilling challenge for contestant and audience alike and there is a blind-judging process by which the contestant photographer’s work is selected or rejected.

“Style photography is an art form – one that has given us countless iconic images – providing both a reflection of our culture and times, and a demonstration of how to be successful,” explained Peter Bonisch, commercial director of Back to Front TV. ”This program represents the first step for us in this space, hence the working title for the series, and we are very excited to help realise it for the UK viewing audience.”

The show will be executive produced by Back to Front TV, a firm that develops content among other production related activities; and is advised by Mannan Capital Partners.

Royal Photographic Society Supports Britain’s First Reality Show for Photography

RPS-Poster-Web-01-1080x590London, United Kingdom, 3 October — The Royal Photographic Society today announced support for Britain’s first reality show for photography and has become the headline supporter of the project.

Founded in 1853, The Royal Photographic Society is the world’s longest established photography society. It was granted its Royal patronage by Queen Victoria in 1894, and a Royal Charter in 2004. It remains one of the most prestigious and well-respected societies to this day, counting members from over 80 countries in the world. The Society exists to support photography and to help individuals improve their own imaging skills.

The 9-episode series developed by Back to Front TV will take the form of a progressive elimination show that will celebrate the essential relationship between style and photography. To be produced in Spring 2014, the executive producer will make an official call for contestants in October 2013, inviting keen photographers across any level of skill to submit their best image and describe their motivation to participate in this exclusive first series. Each episode will be produced into an educational and thrilling challenge for contestant and audience alike.

The Society’s Director-General, Dr Michael Pritchard commented: “The Royal Photographic Society exists to help individuals develop their own skills and the use of a reality television series, led by a respected photographer, marks a new way of realising this long-established aim for The Society. The Society hopes that those photographers taking part will enjoy the experience of learning new skills and testing them against their peers. For viewers, the series should be both entertaining and an opportunity to learn new techniques to support their personal photography”.

The announcement of the show could not have come at a more auspicious time, as 2013 marks the centenary of the birth of Norman Parkinson, one of the all-time greats of British fashion photography with a career that spanned seven decades – in 1981, he was awarded the Royal Photographic Society’s Progress Medal, which carries with it an Honorary Fellowship of The Society.

Commenting on the collaboration, Haider Mannan creator of the concept and principal of Back to Front TV, said: “This is a creative first for Britain and we are wholeheartedly committed to supporting The Society’s endeavour of promoting photography. We hope this collaboration will deliver tremendous value for the creative arts in Britain through the contemporary medium of photography. We would like to inspire a new generation of photographers.”

The show will be executive produced by Back to Front TV, a firm that develops content among other production related activities; and is advised by Mannan Capital Partners.

WC_BTF_PRESS_FINAL-1080x717LONDON, United Kingdom, October 10 – Legendary 70s and 80s fashion photographer Willie Christie has today been announced as the Executive Director of Britain’s first reality show for style photography.

With a career spanning four decades, Christie was given his first break in photography by David Anthony and went on to work as an assistant to the great Clive Arrowsmith. “Photography is now ubiquitous but more doesn’t necessarily mean better by flicking a switch to get a cool effect,” explained Willie Christie. “It will be fun to stop the clock, strip away the layers and rediscover timeless images that have ‘a point of view’.”

Christie has been showcased in Vision Gallery (Arizona), the Little Black Gallery, The Ivy Club, the RA’s Summer Exhibition 2011 and his Mick Jagger portrait of 1969 was selected for the international tour of Les Recontres D’Arles 2010 exhibition. Willie will win the hearts of our viewing audience, he has a delightfully warm personality and is a master of the craft and the art of style photography”
